Senior Mechanic

Working for Broome County Transit as a Senior Mechanic is an excellent career opportunity for those who have skills and experience to diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions and automotive electrical systems. Qualifications include:

  • Must have abilities to diagnose and repair or rebuild diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulics, automotive electrical systems, air conditioning, brakes.
  • Must have a working knowledge of NYSDOT requirements.
  • Must have the ability to properly use tools and related repair equipment.
  • Applicant must demonstrate ability to work alone and with others.
  • Applicant must demonstrate mechanical and shop safety aptitude, plus have a working knowledge of tools and terminology.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL B.
  • F/T positions are Monday-Sunday, with at least two consecutive days off.
  • Rate is $22.14/hour, then top rate of $29.87/hour after two years.

Mechanic's Helper

As a Mechanic’s Helper, you will be responsible for assisting in the repair and maintenance of buses and related equipment. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Replacing or assisting in replacement of worn or faulty parts, including head lamps, windshield wipers, tires, and other minor maintenance type repairs and general upkeep.
  • Fuels buses and related equipment.
  • Performs maintenance on buildings and grounds.
  • Applicant must demonstrate ability to work alone and with others.
  • Applicant must demonstrate mechanical and shop safety aptitude, plus have a working knowledge of tools and terminology.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL.
  • Rate is $19.52/hour, top rate with steps is $26.68.
  • F/T positions are Monday-Sunday, with at least two consecutive days off.

Coach Operator

As a BC Transit Coach Operator, you will be driving a public transportation vehicle, following an established route while picking up and bringing passengers where they need to go.   • Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse groups of people.

Dispatcher

As a Dispatcher, you will schedule paratransit rides for customers, with an emphasis on serving older adults and persons with disabilities.

  • Promptly and professionally assists callers with service requests, reservations, cancellations, complaints, and various related issues.
  • Uses a computerized scheduling system to make ride reservations and create trip manifests.
  • Maintains two-way communication with drivers, providing rider updates and driver assistance.
  • Minimum 1 year of dispatch operations experience within the transportation industry.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Van Operator

As a Van Operator, you will be driving a 16-passenger paratransit van. This is a great job if you enjoy working with people and driving.  This is a part-time position for people who can have a flexible work schedule. You may have additional driving duties as required.

  • Must have the ability to communicate and interact with all people, especially demonstrating skills working with senior citizens and persons with disabilities
  • CDL C license preferred, but BC Transit will train the right person for the job
  • Paid comprehensive training, with great wages
  • Must have the ability to communicate with vendors and customers visiting the agency.
  • P/T positions are Monday-Sunday, typically 30-38 hours each week
  • Starting pay is $17.99/hour with step increases
