(BROOME COUNTY, NY) – Broome County residents are encouraged to provide feedback on the 2024 Broome County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan Update, now available for review and public comment. This plan assesses our community’s risk to natural hazards and outlines a comprehensive approach to reducing the impact of natural disasters like floods, droughts, extreme temperatures, and storms. It includes mitigation strategies to protect lives, property, and the economy from future hazard events.
Keeping the plan current is crucial to ensure Broome County and its municipalities remain eligible for federal funding for hazard mitigation projects. This updated plan builds on previous versions, incorporating the latest guidance from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), integrating new date and information, as well as contributions from the public and community stakeholders.
A hybrid public meeting to present the draft plan will be held virtually and in person on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 5 p.m. Members of the public can attend in person at the Broome County Public Library Decker Room located at 185 Court Street, Binghamton or attend virtually using the information below:

Broome County encourages residents to review the plan and provide input. To view the draft 2024 Hazard Mitigation Plan and submit comments online, please visit http://www.gobroomecounty.com/planning/hazardmitigation.
A copy of the plan will also be available to view in person at the Broome County Planning Department located at the Edwin L. Crawford County Office Building in Binghamton. Public feedback will be accepted through July 5, 2024.
