Transit Coach Operator

As a BC Transit Coach Operator, you will be driving a public transportation vehicle, following an established route while picking up and bringing passengers where they need to go. If you have excellent people skills, a strong customer service orientation and enjoy driving this may be the right career opportunity for you.

BC Transit is now seeking to add Coach Operators with the right skill set:

  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse groups of people.
  • Applicant must be a people oriented person, have strong customer service skills, demonstrating patience and an even temperament.
  • CDL license with driving experience preferred, but BC Transit will train the right candidate.
  • P/T positions are Monday-Sunday, with at least one day off.
  • Paid comprehensive training with great wages and benefits. F/T employment may be obtained based on performance.
  • Mandatory pre-employment NYSDMV 19A physical.
  • Mandatory pre-employment drug test.

Mechanic Supervisor

As a Transit Mechanic Supervisor, you will oversee BC Transit maintenance personnel during an assigned shift.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Maintenance with leeway to use independent judgment to carry out details of the work. You may be asked to perform related work as required.

  • Provides direct supervision over personnel in the maintenance garage including mechanics, mechanic helpers, and stock clerks.
  • Working knowledge of the latest transit vehicle maintenance regulations.
  • Observes maintenance staff work performance, ensuring it is done in compliance with state and federal policies.
  • Instructs maintenance personnel on proper repair techniques, tool use, and equipment use.
  • Maintains accurate records on vehicle service hours, inspections and scheduled maintenance of transit vehicles.
  • Working knowledge of the latest transit vehicle technology.
  • Does related work as required.
  • Minimum six years’ experience in heavy equipment maintenance including a thorough knowledge on diesel motors.
  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience.
  • Ability to plan and manage the work of others.
  • Computer skills, particularly MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple assignments.
  • CDL B license with air brakes and passenger endorsement.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and fill in when needed.

Senior Mechanic

Working for Broome County Transit as a Senior Mechanic is an excellent career opportunity for those who have skills and experience to diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions and automotive electrical systems. Qualifications include:

  • Must have abilities to diagnose and repair or rebuild diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulics, automotive electrical systems, air conditioning, brakes.
  • Must have a working knowledge of NYSDOT requirements.
  • Must have the ability to properly use tools and related repair equipment.
  • Applicant must demonstrate ability to work alone and with others.
  • Applicant must demonstrate mechanical and shop safety aptitude, plus have a working knowledge of tools and terminology.
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL B.
  • F/T positions are Monday-Sunday, with at least two consecutive days off.
  • Rate is $21.50/hour, then top rate of $29.00/hour after two years.

Van Operator

As a Van Operator, you will be driving a 16-passenger paratransit van. This is a great job if you enjoy working with people and driving.  This is a part-time position for people who can have a flexible work schedule. You may have additional driving duties as required.

  • Must have the ability to communicate and interact with all people, especially demonstrating skills working with senior citizens and persons with disabilities
  • CDL C license preferred, but BC Transit will train the right person for the job
  • Paid comprehensive training, with great wages
  • Must have the ability to communicate with vendors and customers visiting the agency.
  • P/T positions are Monday-Sunday, typically 20-30 hours each week
  • Starting pay is $17.47/hour.
