This internship is supervised jointly by Caregiver Services and Information and Assistance (I&A), units within the Broome County Office for Aging. Unlike many health and human service-related internships, which may emphasize clerical duties, this program offers students extensive opportunities for direct client interaction. Besides writing articles and updating or creating brochures, the intern may be able to participate in assessing clients’ needs in the community setting, and in helping clients to navigate available resources by collaborating with various health and social service professionals within this highly multidisciplinary department. The position is flexible in terms of overall length and weekly time commitment. Applicants should be comfortable with self-directed work, enjoy working with seniors, and be enthusiastic about addressing the challenges of eldercare in our aging society.

Broome County is seeking an experienced professional engineer to serve as the Department of Public Works Deputy Commissioner of Engineering. The Deputy Commissioner is responsible for supervising the County engineering staff who manage the design and construction of all Broome County engineering projects under the jurisdiction of Public Works. Additionally, this position consults with and advises the Commissioner, Budget Director, and other County officials in determining which capital and non-recurring repairs and replacement projects best meet the needs of the County.
The successful candidate must possess NYS PE license, and thorough knowledge of civil engineering practices and principles, with preferred experience in both design and construction administration. A good working knowledge of budgeting and financial record keeping, personnel administration, supervision, and administrative practices and controls are critical. The candidate must possess the ability to work cooperatively and effectively communicate with department staff, other department managers, and members of the public.
