Schools and Agencies Join Together for the 5th Annual Day of Learning!

(Binghamton, NY)  On October 8th, 2010, over 200 personnel from area school districts and local service agencies are gathering together for an all day Joint Superintendents Day of Training. This year’s theme is: “Creating a Calm, Caring, and Courteous & Compassionate Community”.

This professional education opportunity is being put together by the Broome County Family Violence Prevention Council and the Southern Tier Chapter of the NYS School Social Workers Association. The day is slated to have two keynote speakers: Dr. Kevin Wright, professor in the School of Education and Human Development at Binghamton University. He will be talking about “How to Build a Community Where Youth Survive & Thrive”.
In the afternoon we will be hearing from Sister Tesa Fitzgerald, highlighted last week by CBS news for the work she does with children and families of incarcerated women at “Hour Children”.   There are several other workshops lined up throughout the rest of the day.
The event is being hosted at the Windsor High School this year. A strong working relationship between school personnel and local service agencies results in a strong continuum of services for our community’s youth to strive and survive at school and at home!
