Road Work Near Landfill Forces Dunham Hill Road To Close

(Binghamton, NY) Broome County is doing road repair work on Dunham Hill Road in preparation for the new entrance to the landfill. The work will require Dunham Hill Road in the Towns of Barker and Nanticoke to be closed for possibly two weeks. The detours are outlined below

Heading west on Dunham Hill Road to Leekville Road (local traffic will be allowed to Perry Road and beyond up to the “Road Closed” barriers approximately 0.4 miles west of Perry Road), then to NYS Route 26 south, then to Dunham Hill Road east, then to Knapp Road.

Heading north on Knapp Road to Dunham Hill Road, then west on Dunham Hill Road, then to NYS Route 26 north, then to Leekville Road east to Dunham Hill Road.
This closure is necessary in order for Broome County to open the roadbed to a depth of 25 feet by 200 feet long to remove a soft spot of wet clay and peat material and refill with rock and soil, which will allow raising the roadway plane to improve sight distance in the area of the new landfill entrance.
