County Executive Garnar Proclaims July 6, 2018 as Rod Serling Day

(BINGHAMTON, NY) Broome County Executive Jason Garnar joined members of the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation today to proclaim July 6, 2018 as Rod Serling Day in Broome County.

Broome County’s Hotel-Motel Committee also awarded $3,500 in funding to the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation for the Serling Fest.

Serling Fest is currently underway in Broome County on July 6 & 7.

"Last year, we (the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation) hosted "The Twilight Zone Comes Home" at the Forum Theatre, and it was a huge success. This year is the 50th anniversary of the release of Planet of the Apes, which Rod co-wrote, and it's the 35th anniversary of the Binghamton premiere of Twilight Zone: The Movie, so we decided to expand this year's event to two days, to give enough time to properly commemorate these anniversaries and to celebrate Rod Serling's genius on a bigger scale." - Nick Parisi, board member, the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation.

Events are being held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Binghamton on Friday, July 6 and at Broome County’s Forum Theatre on Saturday, July 7. The festival runs from 10AM until 10PM on both days. The full weekend schedule can be found at

Attending the festival is Serling’s daughter, Anne, who is the author of AS I KNEW HIM: MY DAD, ROD SERLING. She will be doing a book reading and signing event.

The event also includes a trivia contest, raffle prizes, screenings of classic TWILIGHT ZONE episodes and a dramatic reading of Serling’s time-travel fantasy “The Time Element”, which ultimately became known as THE TWILIGHT ZONE’s unofficial pilot.

Tickets for Serling Fest are available at or can be purchased at the door on the days of the event.
