Public Hearing to be Held on State Funding for Treatment Center

County Executive to Hold Public Hearing on State Funding for Drug Treatment Center

(BINGHAMTON, NY) A public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5 at the Broome County Office Building on the 6th floor in the Legislative Chambers.

This hearing is to solicit public comment relative to the acceptance of state funding which will be provided to Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare to operate a Medically Supervised Withdrawal and Stabilization Treatment Center at the former Broome Developmental Center in the town of Dickinson.

In November the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services sent a funding award letter to Broome County for $2,700,000 for Fiscal Year 2018.

A resolution has been submitted to the Broome County Legislature to accept the state funding to be voted on in December. The Legislature must approve the resolution accepting the state funding for the treatment center to start.

 Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare’s treatment services in Broome County will include up to 50 medically supervised withdrawal and stabilization beds for Phase 1 and up to 50 residential rehabilitation beds for Phase 2. 70 new jobs will be created and no local taxpayer dollars will be spent on the project.

The facility is slated to open in early 2018 pending state funding acceptance by the Legislature.
