Path Through History Weekend Celebrating Women’s Suffrage Movement Coming to Broome and Tioga Counties

Broome County’s rich history around suffrage and women’s rights will be celebrated with the Path Through History Weekend October 7 through 9, 2017.

2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the United States granting women the right to vote. In recognition of this momentous occasion, Broome and Tioga Counties are recognizing different locations that played a key part in women’s suffrage in New York State.

“Broome County played a prominent role in women’s suffrage in New York State,” said Broome County Executive Jason Garnar. “We want these events and locations to highlight the historic moments that happened right here.”

Highlighting the weekend is the Binghamton 1913 Suffrage Parade Reenactment. The parade starts at 1 P.M on Saturday, October 7th at the corner of Main and Front streets and will end at Landmark Church, 126 Court St.

"Path Through History Weekend takes residents and visitors back in time," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo. "It's one thing to read about our past but to experience it is an entirely different way of learning about our rich local history. We've been working all year to celebrate the historic 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in New York, and I'm thrilled that this year's Path Through History Weekend will be dedicated to the local suffragists who helped women win the right to vote."
