Checkpoints and patrols run February 3-6, 2017
(Binghamton, NY) The Broome County STOP-DWI Program today announced that law enforcement agencies across Broome County will deploy special DWI enforcement patrols to help ensure that our roadways will be safe during the Super Bowl weekend. Broome County STOP-DWI encourages people to make a plan ahead of time that will prevent them from getting behind the wheel of a vehicle if they’re impaired.
According to data collected by the NHTSA, in 2015 there were 10,265 people killed in impaired-driving crashes across the country—29 percent of all crash fatalities. In Broome County, a total of 16 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2016 with alcohol or drugs being involved in 6 of the fatalities.
Don’t just make Super Bowl party plans—make a plan to stay alive.
The STOP-DWI crackdowns are comprised of several periods organized by the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation. These efforts are supported with funding from both the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
