Broome County Disaster Relief Grant Applications Available

BINGHAMTON, NY - Applications for housing rehabilitation assistance for victims of the June 2006 flood are available. Broome County was awarded nearly $500,000 for repairs to homes damaged in the June 2006 flood. The housing rehabilitation grant includes the following restrictions:

  1. Repairs must be limited to damage as a direct result of June 2006 flooding
  2. Beneficiaries must be low - and moderate - income
  3. The house must be owner - occupied and the applicant's primary permanent residence
  4. Repairs are limited to the following: Foundation, Exterior Wall Structure, Roof Structure, Floor Structure, Columns, Joists, Partitions, Window and doors Plumbing, Heating, Electrical, Wells, Septic Systems
  5. Funding must be gap funding after all other sources have been exhausted
  6. A repayment provision will be included in the housing rehabilitation grant agreement that addresses the repayment of CDBG Disaster Relief funds if another funding source is received by the homeowner for rehabilitation paid for by the Disaster Relief Program.
  7. Priority must be given to households displaced by the June 2006 flooding
  8. Properties in the Town of Union and the City of Binghamton are not eligible

The grant is being administered by the First Ward Action Council, a county - wide non - profit housing agency. Applications are available by calling the First Ward Action Council at (607) 772-2850.
