Broome County to Participate in Statewide STOP-DWI Enforcement Effort

“Crackdown Weekends” begins March 17th

BINGHAMTON, NY - Standing alongside local law enforcements officers Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala announced plans today for Broome County to participate in the 2006 New York State STOP-DWI enforcement effort to crackdown on drunk driving.

The effort begins on the popular celebration weekend of March 17th-19th. Law enforcement agencies throughout the state will be out in force in this across the board effort to reduce the number of alcohol related injuries and fatalities.

In addition to the St. Patrick’s Day weekend, the Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign will target Memorial Day Weekend, May 26th-29th, the Fourth of July holiday period of June 20th-July 4th, Labor Day Weekend of September 1st-4th, National Life Savers Weekend, December 15th-17th and finally the holiday period that runs between December 22nd-January 1st.

While STOP-DWI efforts across New York State have led to significant reductions in the number of alcohol related fatalities, still too many lives are being lost because of crashes caused by drunk or impaired drivers. Highly visible, highly publicized efforts like this “Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Weekends” campaign aim to reduce the numbers even further.
