Broome County Named Leader In Suicide Prevention
(BINGHAMTON, NY) – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston today announced Broome County is a 2013 Suicide Prevention Center of New York Excellence in Suicide Prevention Awardee, for its efforts to overcome the serious public health issue of suicide.
“Suicide prevention is a priority in Broome County; as the need to help individuals and families deal with this issue increases, so have our efforts to keep our community safe and healthy,” said Broome County Executive Debbie Preston. “The latest available statistics reveal that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death for Americans; Broome County is dedicated to decreasing suicide rates as we increase outreach and help for those who are at risk.”
Windsor Students Win County Executive’s Art Contest

Broome County Agencies Team Up To Combat Childhood Hunger
(BINGHAMTON, NY) – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston, in partnership with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, today declared the week of June 9th – 15th, 2013 to be Childhood Hunger Awareness Week in Broome County, and urged residents to increase awareness and work together to combat the critical issue of childhood hunger. She was joined by representatives from the Binghamton City School District, CHOW - Broome County Council of Churches, Broome County Health Department, Broome - Tioga BOCES, Catholic Charities of Broome County, Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, and UHS.

History Of Broome County To Come Alive At Path Through History Weekends
(BINGHAMTON, NY) -- Broome County Executive Debbie Preston and County Historian Gerald Smith today announced details of Path Through History Weekends in Broome County.
Path Through History Weekends will take place on June 1-2 and 8-9 at 28 different sites in the community, where the history of Broome County will be told through interactive events and tours.
Path Through History Weekends are a partnership between local governments and non-for-profits in a celebration of the historical and cultural resources throughout Broome County.
“Broome County is an area rich in heritage and full of history,” said Broome County Executive Debbie Preston. “Path Through History Weekends are a celebration of our history and our community’s unique role in shaping America. It’s important we use our heritage to market Broome County as a fun, educational, and historic place to visit.”
Make A Difference Day At The Broome County Dog Shelter
(BINGHAMTON, NY) – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston and Front Street Dog Shelter Manager Kelly Conlon are requesting Broome County residents take part in the Second Annual Make a Difference Day at County-owned Front Street Dog Shelter.
The County will hold an Open House at the Dog Shelter on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 from 10am-2pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to drop off supplies, register to become a volunteer, adopt a dog or simply stop by to visit or walk a dog.
Two breeds of puppies will also be on hand to meet the public.
