The cross-country trails at Greenwood Park are closed beginning today, March 10, 2010 and will remain closed until further notice.

Broome County Security’s Case Integrity Unit Nabs 23 Individuals for Fraud

(Binghamton, NY) Twenty-three Broome County individuals accused of various charges of welfare fraud are scheduled to appear in Binghamton City Court beginning today.  In total, $51,135 of benefits involving the public assistance, food stamps, Medicaid and daycare programs were received by individuals who failed to report employment income or submitted false information.

Broome Files Papers with PSC to Intervene on Consumers’ Behalf

(Binghamton, NY) On September 18, 2009 NYSEG asked the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) for approval to increase the rates the company charges to deliver electricity and natural gas to customers. The proceeding is still pending before PSC. On January 25, 2009 Broome County filed a Motion to Intervene in this proceeding.

Environmental Photo Competition Calls for Entries

(BINGHAMTON-NY) The Broome County Environmental Management Council (EMC), a citizen’s advisory group to County government, invites amateur photographers and local high school students to submit photographs of Broome County’s environment for the 2010 Joyce K.L. Smith Environmental Photography Show & Competition. The purpose is to raise awareness about Broome County’s natural and cultural environments.

H1N1 Flu Clinic Cancelled

BINGHAMTON, NY – Due to the snow storm and projected winds for this evening, the Broome County Health Department is cancelling its H1N1 flu clinic scheduled for 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. tonight at the Vestal Senior High School. The clinic will be scheduled for a later date. Details will be announced through the media.

Broome County Health Department Warns Residents Not to Use Imported Eye Makeup that Contains Lead

Products called "Kohl," "Kajal," and "Surma" Can Damage the Brain and Nervous System 

BINGHAMTON – The Broome County Health Department warns residents that certain imported eye cosmetics contain high levels of lead and should not be used. These cosmetics—called kohl, kajal, and surma—are imported from Asia, Africa and the Middle East and sometimes can be purchased at ethnic or neighborhood stores.
