Preston and Jensen: Parks Belong To People; Not Politicians

Broome County Executive Debbie Preston and Legislator David Jensen (R-Endicott) today removed the last sign with the name of the Executive on County property. This month they will introduce a resolution to the County Legislature to prohibit the placement of the County Executive’s name on signs that adorn all County Buildings, Parks and Property.
“These Parks belong to the people,” said Preston. “No elected official is above the people they serve.” “Our Parks are beautiful assets to the County; they shouldn’t be used as PR tools for elected officials,” she went on to say.
"Broome County taxpayers should not be paying for the advertisement of the County Executive's name. It is a credit to County Executive Preston's leadership that she is joining the Legislature in ending this policy,” said Jensen.
Since being elected Preston has opted out of having her name placed on 19 signs throughout the County, amounting to almost $2,000 in savings.
“It’s a small savings, but that’s not the only reason we’re doing it,” said Preston. “My name is on my County badge that gets me into the building, just like every County employee; that’s all I need,” she went on to say.
