County Legislature announces 3rd annual Green Initiative Recognition Program details

(Binghamton, NY). Chairman of the Legislature Daniel D. Reynolds today announced that the legislature is now accepting nominations for its third annual Green Initiative Recognition Program. The program recognizes local organizations that have displayed exemplary leadership and innovative practices that go above and beyond the mandated regulations to improve our environment.

This year’s recipients will be commended for their efforts by the legislature as well as have a tree planted in a Broome County park in their honor. Recognitions will go to large and small business, not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions, local municipalities, and governmental departments. Eligible institutions will be assessed by Legislative Intern Ariel Schlesinger with a general survey that will address waste management, pollution reduction, energy efficiency and the use of safer chemicals.

A web-based nomination form will be used in addition to Legislator nominations. Chairman Reynolds introduced the nominations form and cordially invited the public to nominate local environmentally friendly programs. The nomination form is available on the County Legislature’s Webpage at: www.gobroomecounty.com/legis/green Anyone can nominate a local organization by going to the website and sending an email with the name of the business, its address and phone number, and a description of the green initiative.

Nominations are due by April 2, 2010.

2010 recipients will receive their award on April 22, 2010 at the beginning of the Legislative Session in honor of Earth Day.
