Binghamton to Host EPA Public Meeting at the Forum Theatre

(Binghamton, NY) Broome County’s Forum Theater will play host next week to the latest Environmental Protection Agency public meetings focusing on the natural gas industry’s use of hydraulic fracturing in the Marcellus Shale. The EPA is holding these meetings to gather public input on its proposed frac study.

Watson Boulevard Culvert Replacement

(Binghamton, NY) Beginning Monday, September 13, 2010 and concluding Monday, October 4, 2010, culvert replacement work will be occurring on Watson Boulevard. Work hours will be 7:00 am to 3:30 pm – Monday thru Friday.

Work will consist of replacing a box culvert on Watson Boulevard; the detour will consist of Groveland Ave. for east bound traffic and Country Club Road for west bound traffic.

Ignition Interlock Provision of Leandra’s Law Takes Effect August 15th in New York State

All people convicted of Driving While Intoxicated

will be required to install an interlock device on any vehicle they own or operate.

(Binghamton, NY) Starting August 15, 2010, any defendant convicted of a misdemeanor or felony Driving While Intoxicated or Driving with a BAC of .08% or more offense which occurred on or after November 18, 2009 must be sentenced to either a conditional discharge or probation and must, as a condition of his or her sentence, install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he or she owns or operates. The device must be installed for a period of at least six months, and can be ordered to be installed for the entire period of the defendant’s conditional discharge or probation supervision.
