Participation in Any Economic Development Projects:
We are currently collaborating with Broome and Tioga County Planning and Economic Development Departments, along with Southern Tier East Planning and Development Board, on a project funded through New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets' "Food and Agriculture Industry Development" program. Called the "Southern Tier Livestock Renaissance," it is a detailed feasibility study to determine whether a USDA licensed and inspected meat processing facility located in the MSA could help retain/create jobs in agriculture and help to conserve working farmland. In recent months, we have been working with the Cornell University Office of Economic Development to facilitate the identification of potential entrepreneurs who may be interested in commercializing technologies that emerge from research activities taking place on-campus. With the recent awarding of Economic Development Agency (EDA) University Center funds for NYS to Cornell, the link between the Cornell Cooperative Extension system and the Cornell Office of Economic Development (and Cornell Center for Technology, Enterprise and Commercialization) has been formalized. We look forward to more opportunities in this area in the near future. We have recently completed an Appalachian Regional Commission-funded project, the Broome County Agri-Tourism and Marketing Training initiative. For this project, our partners were the Small Business Development Center and the Greater Binghamton Convention and Visitors Bureau.
