‘Make A Difference Day’ At The Broome County Dog Shelter

(Binghamton, NY) – Broome County Executive Debbie Preston and Front Street Dog Shelter Manager Kelly Conlon are requesting Broome County residents take part in Make a Difference Day by making a donation to the County owned Front Street Dog Shelter.
Make a Difference Day on October 27th is the nation’s single largest day of community service.
The County will hold an Open House at the Dog Shelter on Saturday, October 27th, 2012 from 10am-2pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to drop off supplies, register to become a volunteer or adopt a dog.
The County will also accept donated items at the Broome County Office Building, 60 Hawley Street, Binghamton, on:  Thursday, October 25th and Friday, October 26th.
“Our Dog Shelter provides outstanding service and an unmet need in our community,” said Preston. “Eleven of the County’s Towns and the City of Binghamton rely on the shelter to take in stray, unlicensed and unwanted dogs, at a cost lower than they could provide. This saves our municipalities money, but right now our Shelter is in need.”
The Shelter is asking for individuals and groups to consider donating:
·         Pedigree Small Bite Dog Food;
·         Soft dog treats;
·         Collars (medium and small size);
·         Dawn Dish Soap (Blue);
·         Bleach;
·         Marrow Bones; and
·         Rawhides.
For more information call Kelly Conlon at the Dog Shelter at (607) 778-2493.
