Greater Binghamton Air Show Returning This July

Tioga Downs Helps Bring Airshow Back to the
 Greater Binghamton Airport in 2014

(Maine, NY)  Broome County Executive Debbie Preston teams up with Tioga Downs and the Greater Binghamton Airport to announce the return of the Greater Binghamton Air Show this summer.

Tioga Downs will be the presenting sponsor for the 2014 Greater Binghamton Air Show.

The last Air Show took place in 2009 due to construction projects and other factors.

“We want to thank Tioga Down for stepping up to the plate to bring back this exciting event,” says Broome County Executive Debbie Preston. “This Show has always been one of the most anticipated summer events in Broome County and it has been sorely missed. But thanks to the support of Tioga Downs, it will once again be a part of our summer.”

When one of my senior staff members mentioned that the airshow needed a sponsor I asked my assistant who was born and raised there about its importance to the community,” says Tioga Downs Chairman Jeff Gural.  “When she told me that she remembered it as being a big event and a boost for the community I gave the green light to pick up the cost of the sponsorship.  It has always been our policy to fund worthwhile nonprofits and special events and this seemed like a good way for us to continue to show our appreciation to the community for all the support we have received since we opened in 2006.

The 2014 Air Show will be held July 4th and 5th at the Greater Binghamton Airport and will feature the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, an 11 Ship Aerobatic Team, historic WWII War Birds and many World renowned civilian performers doing aerobatic maneuvers with their high performance aircraft.

It will also include a night show in which specially equipped aircraft, which have been modified to carry and launch fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices, will light up the night sky. This will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display to close out the evening event.

“We have such a great event planned for the return of our airshow,” says Carl R. Beardsley, Jr., Broome County Commissioner of Aviation. “We hosted a night show in 2007 and it was a huge success. Now, to be able to present this unique variation of aerobatics again this year and then close the show with the fireworks on the fourth of July, this will be incredible.”

The 2014 Greater Binghamton Airshow will feature the night airshow on Friday evening July 4th and then follow that with a traditional daytime airshow Saturday July 5th at the Greater Binghamton Airport.

More details including ticket information will be announced in the coming weeks. Keep checking for more information.

Tioga Downs recently sponsored the Honor Flight, which sent 75 local Veterans from Greater Binghamton to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials there.
