County Sponsors National Historic Trust Main Street Presentation

(Binghamton, NY) Broome County Executive Barbara J. Fiala invites community members to attend a workshop regarding the National Historic Trust Main Street Program with expert and Senior Program Officer Teresa Lynch.  The presentation will review the Main Street Program which is described by the National Historic Trust as a “a unique economic development tool,  the Main Street Four-Point Approach® is the foundation for local communities to revitalize their districts by leveraging local assets—from cultural or architectural heritage to local enterprises and community pride.”. The presentation of the Main Street Approach will take place this Thursday, May 7, from 9am to 12 noon at the Town Hall in the Town of Dickinson.
“This is a unique opportunity for community members and stakeholders to learn about this preferred development approach and become engaged in the strategic development of their community,” said Executive Fiala.
Previously, the City of Binghamton hosted Ms. Lynch in 2006. As a consultant with the National Trust for Historic Preservation who specializes in the National Trust Main Street Center program, she was able to work with downtown stakeholders to begin a Main Street Program. There were a number of community meetings in the city which were held to gather information and feedback used to produce a Final Assessment Report that identified strengths and weaknesses to initiate sustainable, collaborative, development practices with both public and private entities.
