According to Andy O’Connor ESGR Southern Tier Committee Chair, “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve. County Executive Fiala was nominated for being highly supportive of the New York State National Guard and ReservebyherReserve Component employee. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.”
“Broome County Government as a whole has been extremely supportive of all of our military personnel and the service they provide our country,” said Executive Fiala. “So I accept this award but I do so on behalf of everyone connected to County Government and thank the local committee for this honor.”
County Executive Fiala was nominated for this honor by her Executive Assistant, Darlene R. Croston, a U.S. Navy Reservist. Darlene will be deploying next year to Afghanistan, and presented Mrs. Fiala with a service banner to be displayed in her absence.
